Future Direction Network (FDN) is proud to announce three scholarship recipients for its 2014 university scholarships, as well as the introduction of a discretionary FDN Directors Award. Each recipient will receive a 3-year scholarship worth $6,000 per annum to assist with university related expenses. After a detailed review process of a number of impressive applications, the three winners of the 2014 scholarship are:
- Isabelle Babana, Good Samaritan College
- Mechelen D’Souza, Georges River Grammar
- Paulo Greaves, Fairfield High
Donors to the FDN Scholarship Fund allow for such scholarships to be awarded. This year, FDN have decided to attribute each scholarship to a particular donor in honour of their continued support of the FDN.
Isabelle Babana has received the CHAMP Scholarship. Isabelle will be commencing a Bachelor of Design in Architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney. Isabelle, who has a strong passion for design and drawing, was thrilled to receive the FDN Scholarship. Isabelle discovered the FDN Scholarship through a post on Facebook and after watching the promotional video featuring Lauren Pearce, a 2013 Scholarship winner, decided it would only take 10 minutes to apply. “It is so amazing that I have been awarded this. I never thought I would receive this opportunity”, Isabelle stated. FDN Director, Jennifer Slaviero will take on the role as Isabelle’s mentor.
Mechelen D’Souza has received the Revesby Workers Club Scholarship. Mechelen, who has always been interested in the mind and what motivates us as humans, will be commencing a Bachelor of Psychology at the University of Western Sydney, Bankstown campus. Mechelen was encouraged to apply for the FDN Scholarship by a supportive Deputy. “I am so excited to hear the good news and to be given this opportunity by the FDN”, Mechelen said. Mechelen will be mentored by Cheryl McCombie, former high-school teacher with more than 25-years’ experience.
Paulo Greaves has received the AVCAL Scholarship. Paulo, one of four brothers and having a profound interest in the ‘way things work’, will be pursuing a double degree in Engineering and Commerce at the University of New South Wales. Paulo stated, “When Corey and Jennifer came to present at our school, I was inspired by them and the work of the FDN. I wanted to achieve higher goals”. “I am excited to have received this scholarship which will assist me so much through university”, Paulo continued. Paulo owes credit to former teacher and advisor, Ekbal Sayed-Rich who strongly supports the FDN and encouraged her students to apply for the scholarship. Paulo will be mentored by Owen Davis, a young professional in private equity.
FDN also commends Anthony Ladewig from Fairfield High School for an outstanding scholarship application. FDN Chairman Mr Corey Payne stated “Anthony will receive the FDN Directors Award of $500 in support of his outstanding application”. “We wish Anthony all the best in pursuing his Engineering degree at the University of Technology Sydney”, Corey continued.
Scholars will be invited to attend the 2014 Scholarship Award Ceremony on 2 April 2014. FDN are fortunate that the ceremony will be hosted by Her Excellency Professor The Honourable Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of New South Wales at Government House.
FDN would like to take the opportunity to thank all student applicants for participating and their teachers for promoting the FDN.
